Morris Kahn Marine Research Station Opens Second Facility

A new building at Kibbutz Sdot Yam was inaugurated
in the presence of longstanding supporter and friend,
Mr. Morris Kahn, founder of billing giant Amdocs, and
one of Israel’s greatest advocates and supporters of
marine and coastal conservation.

 

Scientists at the Morris Kahn Marine ResearchStationorris Kahn Marine ResearchStation are working to strengthen the connection between science and industry in areas ranging from genetics and pathogens of commercial fish to marine herbicides and natural sunscreen compounds.

 

“The newly established coastal facility will promote exciting growth opportunities in areas of blue technology,” explained Prof. Dan Tchernov at the event. Tchernov is the Founder and Scientific Director of the Morris Kahn Marine Research Station and the Vice-President of Development and External Relations. “Our goal is to develop sustainable marine-based industries and services while protecting our unique marine ecosystems.”

The Morris Kahn Marine Research Station, a satellite of the Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences, serves as the academic base for marine biodiversity research and monitoring programs operated by the Department of Marine Biology. The Station also houses a scientific diving center.

 

At the ceremony, President Ron Robin thanked Mr. Kahn for his generosity and vision, and reiterated the University’s commitment to leading marine sciences research in Israel.
