EXTRODINARY LEADERS

 

 

On the occasion of the University of Haifa’s 45th festive Board of Governors Meeting,
the University is paying tribute to two exemplary individuals, Mrs. Arlette Adler and
Mr. Eliezer Rafaeli, whose dedication and hard work have made important contributions
to Israeli society and the University community in particular.
They were honored for their outstanding service at two separate ceremonies on
Thursday, June 8.

Carmel Award of Merit Recipient

Arlette Adler’s ties to the University can be traced back to the 1970’s. She will be presented with the

University of Haifa’s Carmel Award of Merit in recognition of her efforts to narrow social gaps through

higher education, by co-founding and directing the Unit for Bridging Social Gaps at the University,

and for her tireless work promoting gender equality, through the ‘KIDMA Project for the Advancement

of Women in Israel’, which she established in 1984.

The “Ron Adler Scholarship Fund” for individuals who completed meaningful service in the IDF,

which she founded in memory of her son Ron, has supported hundreds of students.

Eliezer Rafaeli become the first President of the University of Haifa in 1972. On the occasion of

his 90th birthday, he will be honored for his distinguished service and contributions in the

establishment of the University. His tireless efforts in recruiting faculty members, founding

the first academic departments, and planning and inaugurating the library, set the University’s

standing as a leading Israeli academic institute.

 

Mr. Rafaeli is also being recognized for his notable contributions to Israeli society and the

promotion of coexistence in particular, as the founder of the Jewish-Arab Center and the

Unit for Bridging Social Gaps, and for his many achievements as the first President and

Director General of the University.

Eliezer Rafaeli was awrded an Honorary Doctorate for the University of Haifa in 2003.
